David Taylor has grown up a true “lad of the land”. His passion and commitment to soil sprouted as a young boy growing up on a New Zealand farm. Throughout his life, David has been heavily involved with all aspects of farming including:
As a teenager working his own block, David learned how to do the hard yards and get the best out of the land, and his animals. As he grew, he brought on his own team of dogs which led to varied working experiences across the country as a shepherd, before he moved on to dairy farming. When the opportunity arose to become an artificial inseminator for cattle, David committed himself to study to become one of the top technicians in NZ, leading to instructing and covering sheep, deer, goats, and pigs included.
Seeing conception rates declining, David turned his attention back to what he saw as the foundation of farming; soil. His lifelong attraction has led to intensive study including the structure and biological makeup, and then on to our dependence on soil as a life source. David has spent several years tutoring students in agriculture throughout NZ. After many years of varied farming and consultancy, David has set Landcare NZ in place to provide comprehensive consulting, coaching, and education.
We’re taking action to find ways to give back to our land, pledging to preserve the prosperity of our amazing Aotearoa for future generations.
